We are saddened to have to announce the passing of Aleta Phyllis Humphreys on April 7, 2023 after a lengthy stay in the hospital in Baddeck, Nova Scotia. She passed away in the early morning hours.
She is predeceased by her parents Winnie and Smyth Humphreys 1996/97 and her loving partner, Bill MacDonald of Baddeck, in 2018.
She is survived by her sister Sandra, Brother-in-law Harry, Nephews; Brian (Nikki), Dean (Troy) and Brian and Nikki’s children; Anthony, Susanne and Payten. Also surviving her are many other relatives and friends.
Aleta was born April 2, 1939 in Vancouver, B.C. She graduated from King Edward High School and then from UBC with a degree in teaching. She taught at various schools in Vancouver.
She retired in 1996 and met Bill in 1999, and he persuaded her to move to Nova Scotia to his ancestral home on the Cabot Trail. Together they worked on the place, restoring, adding to, and beautifying it even further. They liked to travel and took many trips to various places.
After Bill’s death in 2018, the house became too much for her and she moved into an assisted living retirement home in Baddeck, MacLeod House. She was there until 2 days before her death.
She has received the best care on her journey and we are grateful to Bill’s family and friends and others from the Cape Breton area. To the entire staff at MacLeod House, we offer many thanks for looking after Aleta so respectfully. Aleta’s final wishes included being brought back to Vancouver, B.C.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice, if desired.
