Brian ‘John’ Smaldon passed away peacefully at his home in Sydney, Nova Scotia on December 19, 2022 in his 94th year.

Born in Tooting, London, UK on June 20, 1929, he first pursued a career as an electrician but eventually was employed by ICL as a computer engineer. After several tours overseas including The Yemen, Libya and many more places he was transferred to Canada in 1976 where he stayed until his retirement. He was very proud to have worked for ICL for 43 years and belong to the Double Majority Club.

Brian was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Frances, his first wife Elizabeth (Betty), 2nd wife Beryl, son Kevin, brother Ken, twin brother Geoffrey and sister Kathleen. He is survived by his sister Barbara, daughter Deborah (Marty), nephew David (Millie) and nieces Tracy (Martin) and Amanda (Phil). Brian was fondly known as ‘Popup’ by his grandchildren Kevin (Victoria), Justine (Dan), Hailea (Andrew) and Liv (Nick). He loved them all and was proud to be a Great-Grandfather to Mackenzie, Hendrix, Ezra, Myles, Rose, Dallas and Fara.

A special mention to John’s co-workers and poker buddies. He loved getting together for laughs. David, Howard, Leon, Tony, Pat, Naresh and...well you know who you are... Thank You xx

Many Thanks to Colleen, Jenn, Tammy, Amber, Joann and Mahiraj (Joey) for taking such good care of my Dad when he needed you the most. So much love!
