BURKE, Claire Maire - 74, River Bourgeois, Nova Scotia, died April 30th, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Born in Weymouth, Massachusetts she is the daughter of the late Anthony (Tony) Francis and Shirley Virgina Gatto. She was widow of 20 years to Augustine (Gussie) Joseph Burke.
Claire immigrated to Canada in 1973, with her son Tony, and married Gussie November 3rd, 1973. In the early years, as a homemaker, she enjoyed bowling, weekly card plays at various homes, making coffee cake, attending mass at the St. John the Baptist Church, and taking the annual 16-hour road trip to Massachusetts with many detours along the way. Claire and Gussie welcomed their pride into the world in 1977, Lynn Marie. In later years, she enjoyed visiting Louie’s Restaurant, visiting with friends and family, and chatting with her favorite granddaughter Ava Grace.
Surviving are her daughter, Lynn, at home; son, Tony and favorite grand-daughter, Ava Grace, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; sisters - Sheila Clancy (Denny Favorite brother-in-law) Indianapolis, IN, Maria Gatto (Linda Keeley) Oelwein, IA; brothers - Butch Gatto (Bobbi) Weymouth, MA, Joe Gatto (Rose) Indianapolis, IN, and Michael Gatto (Debbie) South Weymouth, MA; sister-in-law Marie Burke (Pat) River Bourgeois, NS and brother-in-law Joe King (Shirley) Evanston, NS; and companion Albert Crewe. As well as many extended friends and family members she held dear.
She we predeceased, additionally, in life by father-in-law Alexander Joseph and Amelda Marie Burke; sister-in-law Claudette King, Evanston, NS; brother-in-law, Mark Burke, River Bourgeois, NS.

There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 7th, 2024, in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in River Bourgeois, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Father John Yake officiating. Burial to follow immediately in the Parish Cemetery.
Reception to follow in Tara Lynne Community Centre, River Bourgeois, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation or Strait Richmond Hospital Palliative Care Society.
