Deborah Lynn Penney-Webb, 56 of New Waterford, Cape Breton NS left us bereft, November 27, 2024. As morning birds broke song, Lynn’s brief, fierce battle with cancer was over. With the support of the staff at the NW Hospital and An Cala Palliative Unit Sydney, Lynn was embraced throughout her care with unwavering compassion. We are indebted to your service.
Lynn, born December 6th 1967, adorned with her signature red hair (a centennial baby) that would come to define her passionate life and fiery spirit.
Early years Lynn spent in Ontario returning to Wasaga Beach to start her family. There a career in finance nurtured her calling; helping others reach their goals so too creating lifelong friendships with colleagues, legendary girls weekends and a love of beautiful Georgian Bay.
After the tragic death of her brother Vincent, and her childhood best friend Heather Penney-Webber (Michael), dear sister to Buddy, Lynn made the leap that many Cape Bretoners are called to do, return home. Here Lynn’s heart remained true and steadfast to her partner Buddy.
To know Lynn was to understand her passion for her work and devotion to church business (The Collieries Parish) and community. Lynn was a valuable employee of the YMCA – Nova Scotia offices. Lynn began her career with the YMCA in the Charlotte Street location as a Case Manager, moved to the Glace Bay office and ending her career with the YMCA – NSW as the Team Leader / Staff Trainer at the NW location. Although Lynn only worked in the local area of the Y her presence was felt by all locations.
Lynn also supported the YMCA as the child protection lead for many years giving up many hours to train all staff and volunteers in child protection also while making sure the children were safe and the child care centres were well protected. Lynn was a valuable, honoured and loved member of the Y family. Lynn was also an active board member of the Adult Learning Association of Cape Breton helping them carry out their mission and vision.
She is survived by her devoted partner Buddy Penney, her children Rachel and Carter Webb, Buddy’s sons Chris Penney (Jillian) and Kyle Penney (daughter Brynlee, her sister Aleeah Wrathall), Mother June Penney-Lynk, sister Jennifer Penney (Dean), siblings Joe Longphee (Shelley) and Carmie Longphee-Strickland (Terry). Many nieces and nephews called Lynn Aunt. Honorary work mom, sister in service to all. Friends so bountiful to name one is to exclude many. It must be noted the devotion shown by friends Tammy Marshe, Jeanie Burke and sister-in-law Melissa Penney. Our gratitude isn’t enough.
Preceded in death, brother Raymond Vincent Penney.
As in life, so too in her passing, Lynn’s direction we must heed. Simple cremation has taken place through Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney. In light of her wishes of no services, we ask you to continue her work by offering your time to make your community better. Kindness through action. Should you so choose, a donation to the YMCA of Cape Breton, or charity of choice.
