It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Effie Viola MacDonald of Whitney Pier, who passed away peacefully on March 17th, 2024, at the age of 74, surrounded by her loving family. Effie was born on October 14th, 1949, and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Effie was predeceased by her parents Dave and Stella Johnson, her brothers Louie and Arno Johnson, and her brother-in-law, Winston MacDonald.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years Carman MacDonald; their two children Carman MacDonald Jr. (Charlene), and Missie Pickup (Billy); grandchildren Carman Daniel (Fiona), Brittney (Jordan), Holly (Jordan), Mitchell (Grace), Madison; great-grandchildren Collins, Elaine & Travis, as well as Travis' father, Travis Bonnell.
Effie is also survived by her brother John Phillip (Lora), and her sisters Myrtle (Mike), Patricia (Terry), Agnes (the late Raymond), Francis (Kenny), Martina (Bill), Delores (Don), and Donelda; as well as many neices and nephews.
Effie was full of life and enjoyed spending her time with family and friends, whether it was out the country camping or at the bingo hall. She loved hanging out with her grandkids most of all, especially at the family bungalow in Loch Lomond.
She was also a hard worker, working for ten years as a district manager for the Halifax Herald and also for several years at Master Meats in Sydney. She spent her final days at the Cove Guest Home under the care of many wonderful nurses, caregivers, and staff, for whom Effie's family would like to express gratitude for caring for her with respect, dignity, and, most of all, love.
Viewing and visitation will take place on Friday Mar. 22nd at 2:00PM at The Salvation Army, 55 Inglis St. in Sydney; Memorial service to follow at 2:30.
