Eva "Leona" Carter

Today an angel received her wings. Eva Leona Carter also known as “Nonnie” to family flew to heaven. Born in Francois, NFLD on July 29^th, 1939. Leona was the oldest child of Samuel James Carter and Emily Jane ( Coley) Carter, Fox Island, NFLD.

Leona was a woman with a rare faith living with disabilities that would kill a lesser soul.  Her generous spirt and giving heart made those she met remember and love her.  

She was a volunteer for MacGillivary’s Guest Home, Cardial Place and Loaves and Fishes. She always received praise and many awards for her cooking and shining kitchens. At age 75, she published a cook book “Cooking with Leona”. All proceeds from that book went to the Resource Centre.

Leona is survived by her loving son Reginald Stewart Carter (Lorena) and her brother Samuel (Barbara), sisters Marjorie Carter, Minnie MacKeigan and Doris (Brian) Dean. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her niece Deborah MacKeigan, brother-in-law John G. MacKeigan.

She was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Church and on moving to Sydney she attended Christ the King faithfully, never missing a Sunday.

We would like to thank Dr. Libbus and Dr. K. for all their care of Leona. Also Dr. Hall and all the staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care for their care over the past 5 years.

There will be no visitation due to Covid 19. A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 11:00 pm at St. Bartholomew’s Cemetery, Louisbourg with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.  Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.foresthaven.ca
