Frederick Miles

November 18, 1924 — July 20, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Frederick Miles announce his passing on July 20, 2022.  Born in Glace Bay on November 18, 1924 Fred was the son of the late Thomas and Beatrice (Giles) Miles.

Left to mourn are Dorothy (Munroe), his wife of 74 years and the love of his life.  Son Dwight (Linda) Blacketts Lake, daughters Linda (Dan) Jageleweski, and Jocelyn (Murray) Fox, London, Ontario. Grandchildren Amy (Scott), Jennifer (Jean-Paul) Melong, Laura (Kristian) Doucette, Emily (Justin), Andrew, Grace(Lorenzo), and great-grandchildren Michael (Crystal), Brianna, Kaitlyn, Ayden, Ashton and Zoey, as well as his sister Jean (Woodstock Ontario) and many nephews and nieces.

Besides his parents, Fred was predeceased by his sisters Clara, Alice, and Phyllis, and brothers Clifford and Billy.

In his earlier years Fred worked in the mines and with Eastern Bakeries in Sydney. He and his family moved to California in the 1960’s, and then to London, Ontario where he worked in the paper industry. Upon his retirement, he and Dorothy returned to Cape Breton where they actively involved and enjoyed many social activities with friends and family.

Always a devoted family man, Fred led by example of strength, humor and wisdom. He was forever on a quest to learn, and rarely was there a phone or dinner conversation where he didn’t ask you to take out your Ipad to look up and answer to variety of topics, ranging from modern music to the Bible. Fred always held a positive outlook on life, and delighted in the success of others. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of his company and knowledge.

A memorial service with family will be held for Fred at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens Chapel on Wednesday, July 27at 10:30 am. This will be followed by a reception at the Reserve Mines Seniors and Pensioners Club on Main Street, Reserve Mines, Where family and friends are invited to enjoy refreshments and reminisce and share their numerous stories about this great man.
