Gordon Frank Ward

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Frank Ward of Soapstone Mines, Cape Breton, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Gordon was born May 16, 1945, to the late Percy Clement and Jessie Anne (Campbell) Ward.
Gordon spent much of his life in the woods – whether cutting many cords in his earlier years, taking one of his many walks to the village, or enjoying a peaceful day at home. Anyone who knew Dad well would have heard him play his beloved 12-string guitar over the years, and likely shared a drink or two along the way. He may have even sung you a tune, given the right mood. He was a talented musician, all played by ear.
Gordon loved his family with all his heart and would do whatever he could to help a friend or neighbour. He was the proudest Dad and Grandpa, always eager to see the latest pictures of his grandchildren. The kindest man you’d ever meet, he was a gentle, patient, laid-back soul – and could be as stubborn as they come.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 37 years, Bonnie (Bailey) Ward; daughter, Alicia Ward (Jeremy); stepdaughters, Faith Dodd (Dave), Miranda Dodd; grandchildren, Jeremy “Little J Man”, Jasmine, Najim, Sinclair, Bell; sister, Mary Crane (Richard); brothers, Gerald “Jerry” Ward (Margaret Rose), Daniel “Danny” Ward (Barb), Malcolm Ward; brother-in-law, Fred Bailey. He was predeceased by his parents; uncles, John Campbell, Angus Campbell; brothers, John Ward, Walter Ward, Frank Ward, Percy Ward in infancy; father and mother-in-law, Lewis and Barbara Bailey; sisters-in-law, Alice Bailey and Gwyneth Slocum Bailey.
We would like to thank all the medical professionals, especially the nurses, at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion during Dad’s final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm, at the Cameron Hall, Whycocomagh.
