We, the family of Guy Edward Murphy of Sydney, sadly announce his passing on Wednesday,June 16, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. He was the son of the
late Edward Earl Murphy and Maude Murphy (LaRiche).
In his early years, he spent a brief time in the Canadian Air Forces before moving on to various jobs through out his life. His last working years were spent working for the Transit Service in CBRM where his smiling face greeted hundreds of people who got to know and love him. He very much enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, playing baseball and he was a member of the Metro Rifle and Pistol Club.
He treated his family to beautiful vacations in Prince Edward Island every summer and the tradition continues on. He bravely fought the battle for his life over the last six months. He faced his illness head on, always finding away to smile and chuckle right up until his last breaths. His passing was peaceful, and he was surrounded by those that loved him.
With heartfelt gratitude, we provide thanks to his partner Ann who never left his side over the past six months. Many thanks to the doctors and staff of: Renal Dialysis, the Cancer Center, Palliative Care, VON and all who helped in his care.
He is survived by his companion, Ann Huey; son, Guy Murphy Jr; daughter, Sheri (Murphy) MacKenzie (Nicholas); grand children, Ava ("AJ" as he called her) and Joshua MacKenzie; brother, Gary Murphy (Joyce); nephew, Adam Murphy and family; niece, Crystal MacIntyre and family; and his friend and mother of his children, Getta Murphy (Richardson).
Cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will take place. Donations honoring his memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape
Breton Regional Hospital.
