Jane "Eileen" MacDonald

September 15, 1924 — November 11, 2021

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Eileen MacDonald, 97, on November 11, 2021. She was the daughter of the Late Charles and Sarah (MacDonald) MacKenzie, Glace Bay. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter MacDonald in 1995 and her brother Murdock MacKenzie. She is survived by her daughter Brenda (Doug) MacQueen and son Keith (Donna) MacDonald, grandchildren, Michelle, Kyle, Hannah (Coady), Candice (Bill), great-grandchildren Colin and Rowan.

Eileen met her husband Peter at the Dominion Coal Company in Glace Bay and they were married for 38 years, living in Sydney and Westmount. She worked at the Credit Bureau for many years and then retired as the Deputy Register of Deeds at the Cape Breton County Court House. Eileen had a sharp mind and intelligence to the end. She always kept up with current events and valued being informed. Whether by reading newspapers, watching Jeopardy, winning at Bingo, or appreciating a delicious meal, Eileen enjoyed life’s experiences to the fullest, especially when she could share them with her loved ones. Eileen always had a positive and grateful spirit. She always went out of her way to make people feel loved and valued. She was thankful for everything she had, hoping “we will always have it this good.” In June 2020, Eileen moved to the Northside Community Guest Home after suffering a stroke. Prior to this, she lived an independent life with the assistance of the Cape Breton County Homemakers.

On Eileen’s behalf, we would like to thank the staff at the Northside Community Guest Home for their compassion. Eileen was very fortunate to have made special friends at the nursing home who were very caring to her and watched over her. You were her extended family. Eileen was a strong, knowledgeable, and generous person. She will be greatly missed. At Eileen’s request, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. A private burial will take place at Forest Haven.
