Joseph "Roy" Rogers

February 13, 1964 — December 25, 2020

It is with great sadness, that we, the family of Joseph “Roy” Rogers  announce his passing on December 25th, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Roy was born and raised in the North end of Halifax, Nova Scotia, but had spent the last several years of his life in Cape Breton, where he had joined his older brother as a chef in North Sydney at Hotel North. Roy was passionate about his profession as a chef, and had spent over 30 years perfecting his recipes and sharing them with everyone he loved. Roy is remembered as being the life of the party, always smiling and singing, cracking jokes, and sharing stories about his beloved children and their successes. When Roy wasn’t working, he was spending time with his loved ones. He enjoyed golfing with his friend of thirty years John, he loved going to Monday night darts with his fiance Amanda, he would spend months preparing his annual birthday poker tournament with his nephew Chrissy, where all his close friends joined for an evening of laughs.

Everyday Roy shared a Good morning message with his older brother, and hilarious videos with his children. His every single day was spreading kindness and joy to the people around him. Christmas time was Roy’s favourite time of year. For over a decade, he was the Halifax Sheraton hotel’s Santa Claus, giving gifts to all the children and families who worked at the hotel. He made large amounts of food for Christmas dinner, and brought it over to the neighbours and to all family members who had to work on that day and did not have their own dinner. To Roy, his friends were his family and it was important to him that they all felt his love.

Roy will be deeply missed by his Fiance, Amanda, his daughters Katelynn Mary (Jody), and Tracey Dale (Chris), his grandchild Emily-Ann, his sons Isaac, and Kyle, as well as his siblings James (Kim), Annette (Davey), and Shelley (Johnny). He will also be missed by his nephew Chrissy, who was more like a son, and great niece Lily Ann who had spent a lot of time with Roy and Amanda. Roy’s nieces (Theresa, Megan, and Kayla) and nephews (Jamie, Brandon, and Chrissy), his cousins, aunts and uncles, as well as family in law (Labrador Family) will also greatly miss him.

He is predeceased by his parents Theresa and Carl Rogers, as well as by his older sister Dale Rogers.

The family would like to thank Chris Hynes and John Seward for being Roy’s Best friends for decades. You were more like brothers than friends.
Roy’s children would like to extend a special thank you to their Step mom/mom Amanda for being by Roy’s side daily while he was in the hospital.
As well, a special thank you to Chrissy for helping take care of Roy when he first got sick.

This has been a team effort for everyone involved, and the family will be forever grateful to all who have reached out and supported us throughout this difficult time.

As per Roy’s wishes, he was cremated under the direction of Forest Haven. His family will be placing a memorial with his Sister and Mother, as well as will hold a celebration of life when COVID restrictions are lifted.
