Karen Gilmet

December 3, 1953 — February 20, 2022

Karen passed away after fighting a tough battle with cancer over the last 4 years but never once gave up and showed us everyday how strong she was. Karen is survived by her spouse Blaise Gilmet, son Blaise Jr Gilmet (the light of her life), her grandchildren Greg & Greenly Gilmet, also her siblings Diane (Rex), Bernie (Chuck), Darlene (late Joe Gilmet), Rochelle (Ashley) & gotta luv me, I’m the Baby Allison (Keith).

Also survived by her in-laws Callie (late Bernadette) Martin (Shirley) and many nieces, nephews, grandniece’s & grandnephews, whom she loved dearly and made sure each had a knitted sweater that she made herself for them shortly after they were born along with many cousins. Karen was predeceased by her parents Tom & Kaye Butts, sister in infancy Leila Marie, brother Tommy and in-laws Thelma & Buster (Blaise’s parents) Linda, Freddie, Wendall & George. Family was very important to Karen and she always made sure Ol’ Fella (Blaise) sonny boy (Lil Blaise), her boy (Greg) & Nan’s Girl (Greenly) were spoiled and always looked after and enjoyed there many drives around the island and lots of fishing trips.

Karen always kept busy and met many friends along the way and had many hobbies, such as camping, darts, bingo, playing cards with her family & always looked forward to family gatherings especially when family came home to visit. Knitting and crocheting were a big pastime for her with her last knitting projects being as recent as December making hats and mitts for christmas gifts for the girls and most recently spending her summers sitting poolside with Darlene while the girls swam.

We have many stories to share of Karen and we will keep her memories alive as we share them especially a story from her trip to Ontario 4 years ago with her sisters Darlene & Allison  to attend her nephews wedding and enjoy many get togethers with Diane(Rex), Bernie(Chuck), Rochelle(Ashley) nieces, nephews and many cousins. Our funniest story involves loosing Allison on the subway and Karen laughed her head off lol after sitting in the audience on a live taping of the Social.

In honour of Karens wishes there will be no Service or Visitation,

Cremation has taken place under the care of Forrest Haven Memorial Garden.
