It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leonard (Sonny) Sidney on January 30th, 2025, of Seaview Manor in Glace Bay at the age of 89. Leonard was born March 14th, 1935 to the late Leonard A. Sidney and Edna (Crocock) Catherwood in Port Credit Ontario.
Leonard met his wife, Myrtle (Lowe) Sidney in Etobicoke where he worked the first 8 years at Lakeshore Lumber before moving to Dominion in 1960 where with his brother Bill, he started the business Modern Aluminum. After 20 years he left there and started his own company called Able Home Improvements in Dominion, where he employed his 2 sons, daughter and wife for another 20 years. Able was the first company in the Maritimes to introduce the energy efficient Blower door fan in their energy air leakage testing. For the last 6 or 7 years he was employed at Family Windows and Doors.
Len loved to help other people when they needed a hand doing their renovations. He was a town councilor from 1969-1971 a member of the Hawks sports club in the 60s, town representative for public and senior housing for 26 years as well as on the board of Association for senior and public authorities for the province and a member of the Lions club of Dominion.
Len is predeceased by his parents Leonard and Edna, wife Myrtle Verla Sidney (Lowe), brothers John (Jack) and William (Bill), and sister in law Irma.
Len is survived by his 2 sons and daughter Steven & Susan Sidney, Dominion, Leonard H and Leona Sidney, Alberta, and Christine and Patrick Kearney, Alberta. Len also leaves behind his grandchildren David and Dale Kearney, Danny (Rebecca) and Kyle (Kaleigh) McIsaac, Stephanie (James) Bryant, Laura Walker and Chris Walker, Brigette Martin and Gerard McDonald, great-grandchildren Jorja, Myles and Lilly Martin, Chloe, Taylin and Rhya Kearney, Violet and Henry Walker, Eleanor MacDonald, Connor, Brayden, Isla, Isabella and Daniel McIsaac, Colton and Hailey Bryant.
Len is also survived by his sister Eleanor and Leo, Mississauga Ont, sister-in-law Dorothy Sidney, NFLD as well as many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Donations in Len’s memory may be made to the Diabetic Association.
