Linda Ann Wadden

May 4, 1943 — February 13, 2025

Albert Bridge

The family of Linda Ann Wadden regret to announce she had passed at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care unit after a courageous four plus year battle with Lung Cancer. The family on her behalf would like to thank the staff at the Cancer Center as well as the Doctors and Nurses of Palliative Care. Linda was so touched and grateful for their care and empathy. Diagnosed in Sept 2020 she came here for treatment in March 2021. So many times, she said she was glad she came home. After treatment she had almost three years before it came back and loved every minute of that time. While in remission her niece Teri took Linda and Valerie to Jamaica and they both loved every minute of that trip. Linda and Valerie were so close that trip meant a lot to both of them. She loved living on the Mira River with the first thing she saw in the morning and the last thing at night being the river. She said it was her happy place and gave her peace and comfort.

Linda is survived by sisters Valerie Wadden, Truro, Cathy (Jack) MacNeil, Mira, Shirley Burris, Middle Stewiacke, Beth (Eric Caines) Bridgewater, brothers Stewart (Ellen) Saskatoon, Bruce, Donkin. Also surviving are a large number of nieces, nephews, great and great, great nieces and nephews. Linda was a proud godmother to her nephew Jason Wadden and also her great niece Nicoles Sparks. Survived by former partner Leslie Archibald and longtime friends Velda Waye and Marlene Kummer.

Linda was predeceased by her parents Howard and Jean (MacDonald) Wadden, Donkin, grandparents John R and Mary Ann MacDonald, Glace Bay, Wallace and Rita Wadden, Dartmouth, and brother-in-law Arthur Burris, Middle Stewiacke.

Linda started teaching at 18 years old at Bridgeport School, Glace Bay then went to Quebec to teach for and finally settled in Dartmouth for the rest of her teaching career. After retiring from teaching, she worked for the corps of Commissionaires at the Halifax Police Department, retiring from that at age 75. During her teaching career, she coached Junior High Basketball, Ladies senior Broomball, and Ladies softball. She joined the Reserves retiring as a Major. She was a member of two Pipe bands and was one of four pipers picked to play at the Highland Day at Expo 67. She was also among the pipers crossing and playing at the opening of the Canso Causeway in 1955.

She loved music in many forms, playing the piano, pipes, guitar and anything else she could make music with.
