We, the family of Mary Sylvia Piercey regret to announce her peaceful passing on Friday, January 22, 2021 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born September 12, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Catherine (Reid) Crowdis. Sylvia worked at the former St. Joseph’s Hospital in Glace Bay before moving to Ontario for a number of years. She later returned back home to Glace Bay. She enjoyed being involved with the CWL of St. Anne’s Parish and with the Pensioners Club in Glace Bay. She was quite the jokester as she always had a riddle or a rhyme whenever you saw her. She never had any children of her own but considered her many nieces and nephews as her own. Some even called her Granny.
She will be sadly missed by her brother Wallace (Myrna) Crowdis; sisters Verna (Finlay) MacNeil and Patricia (Conrad) MacNeil as well as numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Sylvia was predeceased by her husband Mose; brothers Hugh (Greta); Eric (Helen); Richard (Jean); Frank; Regie (Myrtle); sisters Mary (Sonny) Reid; Hattie (Bruce) Miles; Katie (Dan) Debison; Elizabeth (Joe) Gasko; Concilio (Gordie) Rhodes.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Forest Haven Memorial Gardens and a time to celebrate Sylvia’s life will take place at a later date. Memorial donations to a charity of your choosing would be appreciated by the family.
