It is with great sadness that the family of Michael announce his passing on September 11, 2024, at home surrounded by his family.
Michael was the son of Edward (Eddie) and Jenny Mleczko. For over 30 years, he was employed by the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation. In his spare time, he volunteered as a Scout Leader, an activity he enjoyed for 10 years. He took the motto “Be Prepared” seriously, to the extent that everyone knew where to go when they ran out of supplies. This past year, he enjoyed watching the antics of their Maine Coon cat Jethro.
Michael was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of 37 years and a considerate and generous friend and neighbour to many people. He was a mentor to his nephews and spent many hours over the years instilling in them the value of hard work and the satisfaction of a job well done.
Michael is survived by his wife Lina (Di Rito); sister Jennifer (Dwight) MacKeigan; sister Michele (David) MacDougall; nephews David and Logan MacDougall; mother-in-law Mamma Lucia; and brother-in-law Enzo (Liliana) Di Rito and niece Martina Di Rito. He is predeceased by his parents and nephew Antonello Di Rito.
Lina would like to thank Dr. Trevor Guy and the VON and Continuing Care team for their compassionate service, and she extends a special thank you to Bruce Hennessey for being Michael’s good friend and helper on many projects.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service per Michael’s wishes. Donations in Michael’s memory can be made to the Lung Association or the NS Heart and Stroke Foundation.
