It is with very heavy hearts and regrets we announce the passing of Nelson Franklin Hill, age 76, who passed peacefully at home on July 14, 2022.
Nelson worked for 35 years at Sydney Engineering and Drydock. He loved the simple things in life. Longwalks in the woods, spending time in the garden, swimming at the bridge and going for long drives. Hewas truly a natures man, and never without his sidekick Molly. He enjoyed watching hockey games
whether on TV or in the rinks, but his main passion was baseball. He played for many years including with the Point Edward Senior team, which had him playing all over the Maritimes. Nelson was later inducted into the Cape Breton Baseball Hall of Fame. He passed this passion on too many members of his family and could be found at any ballfield cheering them on.
Nelson is survived by his wife Helen, children David, Louis (Cindy), Belinda (Clint), Donna (Bernie) as well as 5 grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Frank (Shelly), Douglas (Joyce); sisters, Isabel, Marilyn, Leona (Bernie), Lorraine (Diane) Catherine (Glenn) sister- in law Shirley and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother Pauline, brothers Wilburn, Winston and Raymond; sisters Velma and Joyce; brothers-in law, Edgar, Chipman, Chuck, and sister in-law Millie. Nelson was the strong link in our family who held us all together. He was like a dad to all his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He was proud of us all and loved each of us the same. Never judged, never
criticized, just gave unconditional love. He taught us all so much over the years and we are so grateful and proud to have shared the life of such a wonderful, honorable man. He put everyone before himself, did anything for anyone, and asked for nothing in return. His loss will leave an emptiness in the hearts
of many who knew and loved him.
We love you, Nelson. Your wings were ready but our hearts were not. The chain has now been broken.
Your presence we miss, your memory we treasure, loving you always, forgetting you never.
A gathering to celebrate Nelson’s life will be held on Friday, July 22, at the Pt. Edward Community Hall,
from 2-4PM. Donations in memory of Nelson may be sent to Palliative Care.
Nelson has been cremated and burial will take place at a later time .
