It is with great sadness, that we, the family, have to announce that God has taken our Mother, our Angel home. Rachel Ann Long passed away peacefully on January 3rd, 2021 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with her family by her side. She was the most amazing, loving person in the world and truly one-of-a-kind.
Born June 4th,1940, she was the daughter of Angus Joseph MacDonald and Elva Murray. Rachel was known for her kindness, she made everyone feel loved, and would help anyone in need. There was no such thing as a stranger or a bad person to her. Rachel's door and heart were always open to everyone. She had a special place in her heart for animals that was truly precious, especially for her little sunshine, Sparky. Rachel loved her music. If the oldies were playing, she would be sure to have you up dancing all night. Even music from AC/DC had her rocking. As long as there was music and laughter, she was at her happiest.
Rachel was predeceased by her parents; her husband James Long; brothers Michael and Jimmy MacDonald; sisters Mary Gushard & Theresa Dempsey; daughter Kathleen; son-in-law Ken McLeod, and her companion, Reg Patterson. She is survived by her brother, Angus MacDonald and sister Kay Rudderham.
Left behind to mourn are her six loving children Jim (Lorna), Mary, Ann, Joe, Jason, and Kathy (Clint). Also left are her twelve precious grandchildren, that she truly adored : Jim, Josh, Jeremy, Shane, Kenny, Dolores, Samantha, Tyler, D.J, Michael, Bailey, and Mikkel, seventeen great-grandchildren, all of her loving nieces, nephews, cousins, step children, in laws, and many life long friends.
Rachel will never be forgotten by anyone who had the privilege of meeting her. If she didn't give you something that you will remember her by, she definitely shared a story, or a memory you will never forget which will be carried on forever.
As per her wishes, there will be no visitation, or funeral. The family will be announcing a celebration of life at a later date.
The family would like to thank Dr. Alexandar Wawer, all of the nurses and doctors at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital; a special thanks to Kate, VON, Homecare and the palliative care unit "An Cala"
