With broken hearts, we regret to announce the passing of our dear dad, “poppy” on August 20, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born March 17, 1943 he was a son of the late Reginald and Madeline (Henno) Rice. Raised and educated in Whitney Pier he went on to work as an equipment operator with the City of Sydney for 45 years. He enjoyed playing darts, camping, swimming trips to Lake Ainslie and spending quality time with his family.
He is survived by daughters Victoria (Greg) Royles, New Glasgow; Laurie (Derick) Pinhorn, Victoria Mines; Madeline (Gary) Colson, Sydney; sons Ronald Patrick (Amanda) Rice, Sydney; sisters Louise, Joan, Patsy; brothers George, Eddy, Reginald, Douglas, Stephen and John. grandchildren Stephany, Kelly, Dakota, Allison, Gary, Julia, Haileigh, Tristen, Whitney, John, Morgan, Amanda,Natasha, Melissa, Laura, Angella as well as 3 stepchildren Judy, Mark & Rob
Besides his parents, Ron was predeceased by his first wife Laura and second wife Rose.; grandson Garrett Rice; companion Alice Delaney; and brother Chester. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Burns and nurses of the Palliative Care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, and Nicole Devoe RN and John MulHolland RN of the Northside General Hospital.
A service will take place 10:30 Wednesday in Holy Redeemer Parish, Victoria Road with Father Paul Murphy officiating. Covid restrictions in place - masks required.
In Lieu of flowers, donations in Ron’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
