The family of Sandra Dawson is heartbroken to share her unexpected passing in her sleep at 59 years of age on Jan 3, 2023.
Sandra (Sandy to family) was born in Sydney, NS on April 20, 1963 and grew up between Sydney and Halifax, before settling in her hometown, where she started her career at Citizenship and Immigration Canada in her early 20s.
Sandy loved cats, crafting, traveling, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Her artistic talent was evident in all her creations—from sewing, designing cards and jewelry to stunning one-of-a-kind memory journals. She was a foodie; her love of cooking and baking were inspired by watching her grandmother Nan. Sandy was kind, compassionate and thoughtful with everyone.
It has warmed our hearts to see the loving messages on her Facebook page. She loved hearts and purple; many of her colleagues have been posting purple hearts and changing their profile pictures to purple in her memory.
Sandra is survived by her parents, Joanne (Lloyd) Dawson of Deseronto, Ontario and Joseph (late Gwen) Guillena of Sydney; siblings Cheryl (Peter) Smith of Ottawa, Brian (Cathy) Guillena of Virginia, Janice (Marc) Dawson and Dianna (Bianco) Dawson of Ottawa, Brad (Stacy) Guillena and Evan Guillena of Sydney; and her much loved nieces and nephews - Carmen, Andrew, Kaitlyn, Chrissy, Cameron, Heather and Shelbie.
If donations in her memory are desired, Sandy would choose the Cape Breton SPCA or a local cat rescue organization that helps get cats off the streets to have a better life.
Family, friends, and colleagues are invited to join in a Celebration of her life on Saturday, January14th between 2PM and 4PM at the East Bay Legion, 2317 Kings Rd. We invite you to wear purple if you have it.
