It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce that Theresa Hill, affectionately known as “Ma” and “Nanny” passed to be with the Lord on January 30, 2022 at the age of 84 with family at her side. Theresa was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Muriel (Layes) McKinnon and loving wife of the late Michael Hill.
Survived by sons, Vincent and Glen, Glace Bay and Darryl, New Brunswick. Daughters, Alanna, Sydney, Jacqueline (Jimmy), Glace Bay, Michelle (Charles) Glace Bay, and Tanya (Lloyd), Glace Bay. Also survived by sister, Madeline King (Joe), Ontario, she will also be sorely missed by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Theresa was predeceased by son, Shane, brothers Joseph, Edmond, Fabian and Murray; sisters, Carmella Wadden, Donna Campbell and former husband Ronnie Boutilier.
Having a strong faith in God, Ma could be found reciting her prayers and the rosary with her furbaby “Noogie” consistently close by while living at home. Always known as a hard worker, starting at a young age, she was employed at the Glace Bay Grill before starting a family. Years later, she worked at Cadegan’s Fish Plant in Glace Bay followed by working as a cleaner at the Guildwood Inn as well as in homes of the local area, all the while carrying out being the epitome of what a wonderful mother is.
Being self-taught, Ma enjoyed playing the piano and did so beautifully in her leisure time, would enjoy a good dart game with friends and always enjoyed a “cuppa tea and crumpet”, especially in the company of others. Ma was a social woman who had a sense of humor like no other with a dry comedic delivery. Our mother was a woman of great love, patience, strength and support to us all and will be missed dearly; not only by family but by those who had the pleasure of knowing her. A special thank you to the staff of New Waterford Homemakers for their care and compassion shown to Ma in recent years while living at home until she was no longer able.
A special thank you is also extended to the staff of Maple Hill Manor of New Waterford who made Ma’s last place of residence one of care and comfort while providing her with heartwarming friendships that she so enjoyed with you all. In lieu of flowers, donations in Theresa’s memory can be made to a charity of ones choice. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Glace Bay on Friday, February 4, 2022 at 10 a.m.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions, a gathering limit of 50 people will apply with proof of full vaccination at entrance.
He Only Takes The Best
God saw she was getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around her, and whispered “Come with Me”. With tearful eyes we watched her suffer, and saw her fade away, although we love her dearly, we could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best. Although her heart stop beating , her love will always remain. Her absence puts upon our hearts, a very heavy strain. For now she is in a place of everlasting rest, we just have to understand that God, he only takes the best.
