It’s with great sadness that I must announce that the world doesn’t have Tom Reid to kick around anymore. I’m gone. The devil finally called my name. The Grim Reaper came for me on November 26, 2023 at the ripe old age of 74. I bought the farm. I bit the dust. So, I guess I'm off to the promised land eh? The promised land! Imagine!
I was hatched June 1, 1949 in North Sydney to the late Hepburn and Doris (Clarke) Reid. I decided to skip high school to get straight to work at the Belmont Hotel in North Sydney. I later regretted that decision and returned to get my GED and went on to work at Reeves Hardifoam in Etobicoke Ontario, drive for Jardines Taxi in North Sydney, and then work at National Sea Products, also in North Sydney. I then went on to work at Linamar in Guelph Ontario from which I retired at 65.
I married the love of my life (cough, cough) Marion when I was 21 and I had the best 55 years of my life (married for 53)! Together we raised 3 beautiful kids (that I got the blame for). I also enjoyed every moment tormenting my 6 beautiful grandchildren.
I spent my evenings playing cards with my wonderful friends (when we could actually see the cards that is) - Sharon and Frenchy Targett and Judy and Gordie DeWolfe.
I enjoyed watching many movies and TV shows (over and over again) to the utter dismay of some of my family. I also enjoyed arriving several hours early for the movie theatre/everything else.
Here's the riff-raff that are still above ground: the love of my life Marion; children; Marion (Mannie), Brenda (John), & David (Mary); grandchildren; J.T, Mannie (Haley), Emma, Iris, & Dallis, great-grandchildren; Jack, &Kali, siblings; Jack (Bev), Kevin, & Debbie (Sandy), sisters-in-law; Alison, Cathy, & Sharon, brothers-in-law; Tom (Sandy), Micheal (Kelly), & Terry, along with many nieces and nephews.
Here are the ones that beat me to the punch: siblings; Brenda (infant), Reggie, & Charlie; granddaughter Alex; sister-in-law Wendy; brothers-in-law Ted, & Nathan.
Instead of a public service, I’ve asked my family to get together and talk about the good old days.
I do want to sincerely thank from the bottom of my heart (who knew I had one), all the wonderful nurses and doctors at the Palliative Care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital as well as the amazing doctors, nurses, staff, and volunteers at Hospice Cape Breton for the amazing care they gave me while still above ground, and you're welcome for all the presents I left for you to remember me by ...
I don't want any flowers, but if you choose, you can make a donation to either Hospice Cape Breton or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.

“I get so lonely, when you're away
I count every moment, I wait every day.
Until you're home again
And hug me so tight,
That's when I know
Everything is alright.” - Celtic Thunder
