It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of our loving husband, father and grandfather, Wilfred Ignatius Shaw, surrounded by his family on February 19, 2025 Hospice Cape Breton. He was the son of the late Wilfred Ignatius Shaw, Annie Shaw (Dicks).

If you had the pleasure of meeting our dad, you know he could spark up a conversation with just about anyone. He always had a story to share.

Dad loved listening to his Newfie music, and you could usually hear him coming up the road with his tunes blaring from his car, and you always knew who was in the driveway with the music playing!

Our dad enjoyed spending Saturday nights with the family for card games. He enjoyed spending days hunting with friends and with grandson Mike. He enjoyed spending the summer months camping in Ben Eoin, Margaree and more recently in Mira.

Da worked for 40+ years as a fisherman, where he did just about everything. Then, worked on the pipeline in Alberta with his son Vernon.

Before retirement this past November, he worked with ‘Municipal Ready Mix LTD’ where you could find dad on the roads flagging and guarding the barricades, where he was known to all as “Pops”.

He leaves behind his loving wife Shirley Shaw (Ingraham), three daughters; Michelle (Darren), Tania and Florence, and son Vernon; grandchildren Blair, Karie, Mathew, Michael, and Brett; great-grandchildren Kyle, Anthony, Anthony, Jordan, and Roman; sister Jeanette; a sister in law and brother in law; many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all his work buddies and dear friend Dan McDonald.

He was predeceased by his five brothers Melvin, Gerald, Richard “Apples”, Fabian, Thomas; four sisters Marie, Theresa, Helen and Monica.

We would like to send out a heartfelt thank you for the exceptional care provided by both Palliative Care and Hospice Cape Breton who made dads stay at Hospice feel like home. A very special thank you to Dr. D’Intino and family doctor, Dr. MacLean.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. No visitation will be held as per dads wishes.
