While most cemeteries in Nova Scotia are owned by churches, Forest Haven Memorial Gardens has been privately-run since it was established in 1955. Forest Haven had long been considered one of the regions most beautiful cemeteries. The rolling fields, lush gardens, and mix of mature trees create a scenic, peaceful, and serene atmosphere. Over the past decade, the business changed hands a few times and as owners came and went, the grounds suffered. People were understandably concerned and upset.
David Wilton was one of those people - his mother is buried in Forest Haven. When he saw that the grounds were not being adequately cared for, he knew that something had to be done.
In 2005 David Wilton took ownership of Forest Haven. He and his staff have been working tirelessly to return Forest Haven to its previous glory. As any recent visitor can attest, their efforts have transformed the 27 acre cemetery.
As Mr. Wilton and the staff of Forest Haven continue to maintain the tranquil beauty of the grounds, they also look forward to Turning a Leaf for Greener Futures.
We are currently in the process of expanding our cemetery with the addition of a Green Burial Garden, including new facilities, crematorium, expanded niche wall, walkways and a larger chapel. Planning and construction are underway!
